Reading for their Lives in Durham, North Carolina

Durham School Librarians, welcome to your wiki!  Over the course of this school year, we will be working on implementing the ideas proposed by Alfred W. Tatum in Reading for Their Life: (Re)building the Textual Lineages of African-American Adolescent Males.  This wiki is intended to be a place for you to share your successes, collaborate with your colleagues and work through your challenges.

If you are unfamiliar with wikis, please take a moment to watch Wikis in Plain English, a short video which explains the idea behind wikis and demonstrates their effectiveness.  Another video you may want to explore is a Teachertube tutorial on the basic editing of a Pbworks page.  The music is not for all tastes (mute button recommended) but the information is solid.

We have created the following pages in this wiki to aid you in your RFTL professional development journey.

  • PD Schedule and Tasks- This page will keep a running schedule for the professional development sessions, including an overview of the goals of each session and a log of tasks to be completed between sessions.
  • Meeting Agendas- The agendas for each of our professional development sessions will be posted and archived here.
  • Resources- Throughout the year we will be sharing and modeling strategies. Any handouts, tools or activities we share in a PD session will be able to be found here.
  • Aspirations in Action- This page is where you will begin sharing the early work you are doing with textual lineages.  Please post to this page before the second session.

Of course, the beauty of the wiki is that this is only the beginning.  Please feel free to add to and develop this wiki as you see fit.  The more we share our ideas and resources through this forum, the more we all benefit.   If you have any questions throughout this process, please do not hesitate to contact one of the facilitators. We are excited to work with you all.
